Piano Movers in Brooklyn

A piano is the one item in a move that makes everyone nervous — heavy, awkward, expensive, and impossible to replace with a trip to the store. The Golden Truck Moving Company moves pianos across Brooklyn every month: uprights out of walk-ups, baby grands through brownstone doors, and family pianos that have lived in one living room for thirty years. We plan the route before we touch the piano, and we do not rush the hard parts.

Piano moves are planned, not improvised. Before moving day we ask the piano type (upright, baby grand, or grand), the floors and stairs at both addresses, the tightest doorway or turn, and whether there is elevator access. That tells us the crew size, the equipment, and the route — so on the day, the piano moves once, carefully, instead of three times hopefully.

How we move a piano

  • Protected before it moves: the piano is wrapped in moving blankets and shrink wrap before it leaves the room — keys, legs, pedals, and finish all covered, so a hallway scrape never reaches the wood.
  • Piano boards and dollies: uprights ride on a piano board and heavy-duty dolly; grands are moved on their side on a board with the legs and lyre removed and wrapped separately, then reassembled at the new address.
  • Stairs, planned step by step: brownstone stoops, walk-up stairwells, and narrow turns are the real work of a Brooklyn piano move. We walk the route first, assign positions, and move at a controlled pace — no sliding, no dragging, no shortcuts.
  • Elevator buildings: for high-rises in Downtown Brooklyn, Brooklyn Heights, and Williamsburg, we coordinate the elevator reservation and building move window with your management company, and bring the COI paperwork the building requires.
  • Room-to-room moves too: not every piano move crosses the borough. Moving a piano to another room, another floor, or from a living room to a studio in the same building is a regular job — same care, smaller crew.

Pianos we move most

  • Upright pianos — the most common Brooklyn piano move, from walk-ups, brownstones, and apartments
  • Baby grand pianos — living rooms in Park Slope, Brooklyn Heights, and Bay Ridge houses
  • Grand pianos — full-size grands, planned with extra crew and a longer loading window
  • Keyboards and digital pianos — lighter, but still wrapped and boxed for the truck
  • Pianos as part of a full household move — the piano rides with the rest of the move, loaded and secured with the furniture

Rates and booking

Piano moves are quoted by the job — the piano type, stairs, and distance decide the crew and the price, and the written estimate is fixed before we start. As a guide, our standard hourly rates apply:

  • 2 movers + truck, 2 hours — $400
  • 3 movers + truck, 3 hours — $585
  • Stairs: first flight free, then $25 per flight
  • 10% off any move performed Tuesday–Thursday — mention it when you book

Tell us the piano type and both addresses when you book and we will give you a firm quote, usually the same day. Book a week or two out when you can; last-minute piano moves happen too — call or text (646) 708-4344 and we will tell you honestly what the day can fit.

Common questions

How much does it cost to move a piano in Brooklyn?

Every piano move is quoted by the job — uprights in a walk-up, baby grands with stairs, and full grands each price differently. As a guide, our standard rates are 2 movers + truck, 2 hours — $400 and 3 movers + truck, 3 hours — $585, with stairs at $25 per flight after the first flight free. Send us the piano type and both addresses for a firm written quote.

Can you move a piano up or down stairs?

Yes — stairs are normal for Brooklyn piano moves. We plan the stair route in advance, bring the right crew size, and move at a controlled pace. Tell us the number of flights and any tight turns when you book.

Do you move grand pianos?

Yes, including baby grands and full grands. Grands travel on their side on a piano board with legs and lyre removed and wrapped separately, then reassembled at the new address.

Will my piano need tuning after the move?

Almost certainly yes — moving shifts a piano's tuning even with the gentlest handling. We recommend letting it settle for a couple of weeks in its new home, then having your tuner out. We move pianos; we do not tune them, and we will tell you that straight.

Do you handle building elevator reservations and COIs?

Yes. Send us your building's move packet and we coordinate the elevator reservation and the certificate of insurance with your building management before moving day.

Can you move just the piano, without a full household move?

Yes — single-item piano moves are a regular job. Tell us the piano type and the addresses and we will quote the piano move on its own.
